It is interesting, I know how some have attempted to ridicule the AusAid monies in South Africa without taking into account the slow cook of the projects there with a variety of funding sources including AFL, local corporate and local Govt.

I noted in looking at Vanuatu that 'Just play' was launched there in Malakula back in April with the help of the Australian Govt.

Given Aust is no longer part of Oceania,.....this might be just a little bit about a certain WC bid.

Main thing is - - don't let any soccer person whinge to you about $400,000 spent by Ausaid in South Africa!! I'd guess it's peanuts compared to what the FFA is getting bankrolled with.

The OFC actually reported that the Australian Govt was putting in $4million to the 'Just Play' Oceania Football Confederation program.

Yeah there definitely has been a campaign in Sydney to try to make the Aussie Rules programs look bad. But with the League money and the Soccer program money ther Aussie Rules amounts are dwarfed.

In August last year the federal government announced $4 million over four years to provide ''football delivered'' aid to nations in the Pacific in partnership with the Oceania Football Confederation, which has one vote on FIFA's executive committee. The Oceania region has one FIFA executive committee member, Reynald Temarii from Tahiti.

FOOTBALL Federation Australia has promised to help Jamaica implement Australian taxpayer-funded projects in the Caribbean in what some sports fans believe is an attempt to win support for its 2022 World Cup bid.

Jamaican government and football officials and senior Australian football official John Boultbee were signatories of the memorandum of understanding between the Caribbean nation and the FFA.

The agreement was trumpeted in the Jamaican press as a means of giving the Caribbean nation's football industry access to $60 million in Australian aid money pledged to the region last year by former prime minister Kevin Rudd. But Australia's department of foreign affairs and trade said it "has not provided any funding towards this agreement".

The FFA has since pointed out it has pledged to help Jamaica with projects only if and when aid money is approved for developing football in the Caribbean nation...

So they'll help them "try" to get funding... a bit of nudge nudge wink wink? I hope most of this money doesn't get wasted if Australia fails in its bid. I saw Paraguay's coach say Australia would get it because it's a first world country which has hosted Olympics. Funny, since a main rival would be the US which um, kind of meets those criteria pretty easily too.

Just another of the 'hidden' costs. It all looks and smells fishy. Now, if Australia had provided this money to Delhi to help them put on the C'wealth games.......
