Not quite on topic (ie. French footy) but Europe footy related, I note that AFL Europe has given Start-Up Club Program grants to Averio, Portugal (city about 100 or so Kms north of Lisbon) and Budapest, Hungary.

Any body heard any gossip/intelligence/info about these new teams/clubs on the grapevine/bush telegraph?????

First I've heard of Hungary in several years. At one point I remember there being interest in a Hungarian side being part of the Croatian/Austrian regional thing, but not sure how far it got.

Budapest, Hung(a)ry is listed along with Averio- Portugal, Odense Lions- Denmark and Drekarnir Dragons- Iceland amongst others as successful Start-up Club Program grant recipients for 2013 from AFL Europe.

I did note also there were no Goal Post Grant recipients this year. Makes you wonder if there were any applicants and/or why?

Not enough clubs/leagues feel confident enough of securing a long or medium term lease of their current playing field/oval to warrant permanent Goal Posts??????

Any news on how Croatia's oval preparation is progressing, and whether it will be ready for use 2014 season filtered thru on the bush telegraph.

W.r.t. goal posts I'd say that most clubs play nines and are happy with using the 5m gap Rugby posts. If clubs can secure an oval then I don't see a problem as the posts can be removable if slotted down tubes in the ground.
