Hawks bypass Christchurch clinics

As reported yesterday in major Melbourne newspaper The Age, AFL club Hawthorn have cancelled a series of clinics due to be held in Christchurch, New Zealand, after the Hawks' request for the AFL to help fund their pre-season training session was turned down.
The Hawks were originally scheduled to run a training session with the Canterbury representative squad last night and an Auskick coaching clinic with local youngsters on Saturday. The AFL's Patrick Keane said yesterday that Hawthorn had asked for "a five-figure sum" to run the clinics in Christchurch, "but we didn't think it was worth that".
While Canterbury AFL administrators have voiced their disappointment, the New Zealand AFL has not made a public statement.
