After many years of dreaming of an AFL match being played in the United States, 2005 was firming as a big chance, as part of Australia Week celebrations in LA. The latest news is that the game looks unlikely.
worldfootynews.com previously reported (see article) that hopes were high for the game to be played in January, with the most likely venue being the UCLA campus. It was suggested that several clubs were keen to play North Melbourne, but a report on the Herald Sun website says that the Kangaroos have lost interest due to a "poor response from organisers in California". This would be a major missed opportunity for Australian football in the US - presumably USFooty and the CAFL will be doing everything it can to ensure the game goes ahead.
