In another encouraging sign for international footy, young English immigrant to Australia, Brad Moran, has been drafted by the North Melbourne Kanagroos. Moran came to Australia with his parents only a few years ago, and despite Rugby and soccer backgrounds, and a desire to pursue Rugby, had a go at Aussie Rules. He showed great promise and was soon playing for Southport in Queensland. The AFL National Draft (held Saturday November 20) saw North Melbourne select the youngster with pick number 58 (the Kangaroos 2nd overall, in the complicated draft system). Although not a product of the British Australian Rules Football League, Moran had been scouted by the league as a possible player in the 2005 International Cup. As he will be on a professional list, it seems unlikely that he will be available. However, it is still a good sign for international footballers, as many have come to football late, not as children. AFL clubs are showing that they are still prepared to gamble on such players, provided they show enough potential, and especially if they are particularly tall (Moran is now listed at 202 cm).
