Reigning AFL premier the Sydney Swans have sent two of their Talent Recruiting Managers to South Africa. Perhaps this is the first of many scouting parties that will head there to see what level the players are at.
South Africa's coach, Mtutu Hlomela, writes on the AFL South Africa website "We at AFL South Africa were privileged to host the two of the Sydney Swans Talent Recruiting Managers, Mr. Ric Barham (Former Collingwood player) and Mr. Stuart Maxfield (Former Sydney Swans Captain)".
They visited AFLSA's base in the university city of Potchefstroom and travelled out to rural communities, as well as down to Cape Town and Stellenbosch. Maxfield found the remnants of apartheid confronting but said "I had a great day spending time and laughing with the children, they were beautiful souls".
As Mtutu says, "Spread the Joy!!"
