This year – June 5, 2010 – marks the 10th Anniversary of World Environment Day – a landmark event acknowledged in more than 100 nations, Australia included.
The Green Game serves as a fitting finale to a week of sustained activities involving the Blues, beginning with the launch of Carlton Captain and Visy Environmental Ambassador Chris Judd’s video pledge for a better world.
Launched today on the Carlton website and YouTube, the video, which also features Carlton President Stephen Kernahan, Coach Brett Ratten and a number of Carlton senior players and celebrities, together with Visy Executive Chairman Anthony Pratt – will also screen on the MCG’s scoreboard during the Green Game.
Thursday, June 5, sees over 50 primary school students at Visy Park as part of the innovate schools program developed by Carlton, together with our sustainability partner Visy. Chris Judd and fellow Carlton Environment ambassadors will be involved in the Visy Enviromaniacs Live @ CFC on Thursday morning.
The aim of the Visy Enviromaniacs Live @ CFC is to demonstrate how primary school students can leave a positive environmental footprint, through increased awareness of recycling, water management and energy saving and will see over 3,000 students take part in the program throughout 2010. The Carlton players and students will be share ideas on the environment and will also be involved in interactive football activities that highlight the need for a healthy and active lifestyle.
The Visy Enviromaniacs Live @ CFC will commence in the Don Chipp Lecture Theatre at Visy Park at 11:15am on Thursday and Chris Judd will be available to speak with the media during the activities on the ground at approximately 11:45am.
Finally, on World Environment Day, Saturday, June 5, supporters will be invited to make their own pledge at the various Visy locations outside the MCG. Six lucky fans will be selected to “kick goals for the environment” on the ground prior to the Carlton-Melbourne match. The winner of this competition will then be afforded the rare honour of joining Chris Judd at the centre of the MCG to toss the coin in the lead-up to the first bounce.
