5 or so years ago you couldn't find a reference to international footy in the AFL annual report. Things have changed so much, now Demetriou is proud to mention it to the UN. Which is not to say everything is perfect, but interesting to note just how quickly things have been changing. Keep it coming.

Yes, I agree Brett, it was always going to happen in this Global World we now all live in, like it or not. There are still many selfish Australians who do not want to share this wonderful game and they are small minded and wrong. A lot of credit should go to the AFL's former head Wayne Jackson, as he listened to people who were trying to grow the game internationally and backed them even though he got critcised by some powerful Vic Clubs. As anyone knows in business, if your not growing, your dying! There is also a guy called Leon van Erp who first promoted AFL in remote desert regions in Australia, who shoul also be proud of whats happening today.

It's a tribute to all those people across the globe who have been working for a long time now to grow the game. All those different leagues and clubs have put down some great foundations which has allowed the AFL to make some quick gains. And now hopefully something really great can be built upon it.

If there were no grass roots driven footy leagues overseas - just imagine how much the AFL would have to invest to 'top down' insert 50,000 players or however many across the what now is a vast array of nations, cities and clubs.

The budget couldn't be big enough.
