The Australian Football League will unite with the Australian Federal Police for the sixth annual Unity Cup to be held in Melbourne on March 24.
Representing the diversity of our game, Australia Post AFL multicultural ambassadors David Rodan (Fijian) and Majak Daw (Sudanese) will hold a leadership session during the multicultural carnival which will take place at JJ Holland Park in Kensington. The Unity Cup celebrates multiculturalism and involves teams from Muslim, Jewish, African, and Indigenous communities competing in an AFL 9’s competition. All players are between the ages 15 to 18.
This year the Australia Post AFL Multicultural Program will join the founding partners of the Unity Cup, the AFP and Essendon, as well as North Melbourne, Western Bulldogs and Melbourne to promote community understanding and social inclusion within Australia’s culturally diverse communities.
For the first time, teams representing New South Wales, Northern Territory and South Australia will compete at the national event against teams who qualified following the Victorian Unity Cup, held last Sunday, March 17 at Airport West. These teams include MUJU Peace team, Hume Indigenous Bombers, Bombers All Stars and Newport, plus Team Africa/Kensington, Islamic Council Victoria and Kokoda Diggers who qualified as wildcards.
