We take a look at some of the International players running around in the VFL this past round. Some teams are currently having byes meaning a well earned rest for the likes of Americans Jason Holmes and Mason Cox and Irishman Conor McKenna.
Padraig Lucey (Ire) also missed the thirty point win to Geelong over Coburg as he was out of the side after being in the best players as lone ruckman the previous week against North Ballarat. It is believed he has been given the week off due to the heavy workload and has returned to Ireland for a break and is expected to be back for Geelong’s next match on July 4th.
Alex Aurrichio (USA) continued his improvement as he went up against fellow American Eric Wallace (USA) with the two American ruckmen having 37 and 34 hitouts respectively. Wallace was making his long awaited return to senior VFL footy and playing his first senior game in the Werribee jumper. It was Northern Blues’ Aurrichio that was on the winning side though as the Blues scraped home by four points to upset the highly fancied Tigers.
Khan Haretuku (of Kiwi parentage) was best on ground for Port Melbourne as they knocked over Frankston at Frankston oval on Sunday to the tune of 31 ponts. Haretuku kicked 5 goal for the Boroughs against the cellar dwellers.
Kurt Heatherley (NZ) had 9 kicks, 7 handballs, 8 marks and 1 tackles in defence for the Box Hill Hawks at Burbank Oval. The Hawks continued their strong season form to defeat Williamstown by 62 points and secure top spot on the VFL ladder.
Development League
Shem Tatupu (NZ) was the sole International running around in the Development League this weekend. He kicked two goals for the Box Hill Hawks in their 55 point win over Williamstown.
