Want your AFL shot? Better call Bucky. Actually even better go to www.fox8.tv

 

Produced in conjunction with the AFL, THE RECRUIT is a reality football entertainment series that follows 12 ‘Recruits’ who live and play together as a team, while at the same time competing against each other, in order to win a life-changing prize.

 

Mark Cisco and Padraig Lucey (pictured left) wouldn’t have been in the thoughts of many when it was announced in 2013 that Foxtel would be coming out with a TV show called “THE RECRUIT” which would guarantee an AFL list slot to the winner of the show.

Looking for that diamond in the rough of footy outside the AFL that had missed their chance to make it to the bigtime, the producers scoured the country and as it turns out the world for the right group to make their show a success.

 

As it turned out the International flavours of Cisco (former American basketballer that had attended US and Australian Draft Combines) and Lucey (who attended an AFL Combine in Europe) proved popular and went deep into the competition. And Lucey, who had also competed for Ireland at the 2014 International Cup but was not a winner on the show, would be rookie listed with Geelong.

 

After a year off, the show is set to return to the screens in 2016 and it has just been announced that Gary Buckenara will be leading the national search. The former Hawthorn premiership player was recruiting manager at Hawthorn for the past 10 years and knows what AFL clubs are looking for. We hope he is looking outside Australia’s shores too.

 

THE RECRUIT is open to footballers over the age of 20 as of March 1, 2016 who have not been on an AFL list. They must not have been a registered player in the VFL, SANFL, WAFL or NEAFL competitions in 2015 and not be contracted to one of these competitions for 2016.
