I am simply taking liberties by using a little literary license, 'cringe' here referring to reverse cringe if you like, so Australians who support our code as with so many on this site, deriving value through any international status they can glean, as opposed to being content and valuing it in it's current domestic one.

If this were seriously, only about a few kids kicking the Sherrin around and was only altruistic intent, then that would be fine but we all know it is far more than that.

I have no problem with other countries taking up our great game as happens with the US homegrown brands, however I do take exception to anyone who promotes fringe overseas AFL demographics in favour of local ones, compromising these by affording internationals the great privilege of elite membership of the ultimate comp our game has to offer.

As already stated, there are many more deserving demographics in Australia compared to the footy back water i.e. NZ. To go down that path would be a cynical commercial exercise, overiding any merit based criteria and ultimately causing irreparable damage to the AFL, the code and it's faithful, disenfranchising many to this end.

Are you somehow under the impression that the AFL is investing heavily in this?

The footy being played outside Australia is 99% self-funded and run by passionate volunteers. Only in a few small areas is the AFL putting in a bit of development cash. Some AFL clubs kick in jumpers etc. But the rest of it is done solely for the love of the game.

The contributors to this site all know this, most of us having been part of overseas footy clubs and leagues, building it from scratch, or long-term followers.

You on the other hand seem to have absolutely no idea about any of this, and are just looking for a platform to vent about New Zealand maybe getting some AFL matches.

If, as you said in the previous post, you're "insulted" by the community of expat Aussies and enthusiastic locals getting together to play footy regularly all around the world, for nothing more than the love of the game, then I feel very, very sorry for you.

Please do not feel sorry for me, I don't.

The Kennets of this world are most certainly serious about NZ and when they do come out with these sorts of insulting suggestions those in WFN land jump right on the band wagon.

You seem to contradict yourselves if as you say there is little cause for concern at the same time promoting these sorts of que jumping notions foor the cause i.e. your global cringe and at the expedience of Australian footy demos i.e. mine.

This seems, in your mind, tobe very clearly about the ACT versus NZ, and the fear that somehow NZ will get footy at your expense. The AFL have played numerous matches in the ACT with in general a fairly poor turnout from the locals. If the locals are waiting for their own team then this is a pointless discussion because you will not get one if you don't support AFL matches there. There does not appear to be a demand, and it is a small population.

The apparent inadequacy of the ACT at this point in time or the foreseeable future to support an AFL club has absolutely nothing to do with NZ, other than it seems a neat way for you to combine two issues you're obviously passionate about - AFL for the ACT and hating NZ.

Who knows, maybe the next two teams in the AFL will be Tasmania and a third WA side. Then for the next expansion the AFL might be looking for two more teams, one in NZ and one in ACT simultaneously, provided the ACT has grown to a reasonable size and has a stronger AFL following - currently it is relatively small and heavily split between Aussie Rules and the Rugby codes.
