You obviously are out of touch with footy domestically.

The last turn out at Manuka Oval for the Swannies v Doggies was 14.5K, hardly a poor gate. The League and Union elite brands here only average around 12K anyway.

I believe my concerns are more than valid when someone as influential as Jeff Kennett spouts his NZ vision while the AFL run with it and of course your wfn fraternity all jump on the band wagon talking up NZ without so much as a mention of the ACT.

If i am at all prejudice it is because I naturally do not wish to see a backwater i.e. NZ be gifted an elite presence at our expedience as has happened in other Australian codes.

A crack has certainly appeared in your supposed altruistic sentiment, expressing ignorance and indeed prejudice towards the ACT, so yours is a bit of the pot calling the kettle black Brett.

This site is obviously way too introspective for the likes of me, which is somewhat ironic given your worldly ways.

in the main, WFN 'reports'. So, when a Jeff Kennett let's loose, if it's deemed somewhat relevant, then, we report it. Do we agree 100% or 0%, that's not really the issue. You seem to assume that reporting on certain comments is an endorsement of those comments. That's not necessarily the case. As far as NZ is concerned, the reality is that the NZ side was one of the more poorly performed in last years Oceania U16s. The Solomon Sharks came out and beat them. We aren't getting carts ahead of horses here. However, the involvement of HAWTHORN (not the AFL, but Hawthorn, and thus the vested interest of J.Kennett in pushing it) in NZ, does add a degree of profile to footy in NZ. btw - as a North supporter, I kinda wish we were still playing a couple of games in Canberra, with the Murray Kangaroos playing a couple of games at Albury or Lavington each year and all that,.......but, that didn't happen. Hopefully Canberra and the GWS and NSW zones and the GWS academy pathway and the like can 'work' for sometime. Who knows what lies ahead. For now - the AFL has structured up the NEAFL, and the presence of ACT clubs in the 'NSW' conference ahead of Sydney shows a level of respect from the AFL. Via the NEAFL and the Foxtel Cup, there's been some pretty exciting movements domestically. I'd be thinking that footy folk in Canberra would be focussing on where these new paths will lead.

I heard it said that the AFL put pressure on the doggies to drop the ACT and NT like the proverbial hot spud to explore NZ.

I do believe the AFL are very much pushing the NZ expansion at our expense for ALL the wrong reason and I intend to continue playing devils advocate in this respect.

re suggestions of AFL nudging Doggies out of Canberra. Even if this is true - the obvious connection to make would be that the AFL want's GWS and Swans to get the NSW and (and by default, the) ACT focus. That's not entirely unreasonable. For example - were it that North Melb were still playing a couple of games at year at Cararra, I dare say, we'd've been given the nudge by now. Slightly different of course, as Canberra won't be the 'home' of the Giants. However, it's probably verging on the obvious what the preferred strategic structures (in and around ACT) might be going forward - that the Western Bulldogs might not be deemed an ideal fit, ......wouldn't surprise me.

The ACT may be split between the Rugby codes and Aust Footy yet NZ is being touted and even mentioned in the same breath as the ACT by some as an AFL elite demographic, despite its obsessive Union culture and NO Aust Footy pedigree whatsoever.

I certainly don't apologise for exposing this sort of incredulous ignorance.

Rory now you're replying to "Mark" when there was no such person in this thread?

I guess you feel you're losing the argument when you resort to comments like the recent ones, about Canberra vs NZ. My point that Canberra is split between codes is very relevant. A small population that will always be split versus a whole country that you only need to get a niche in to get both a decent size following and the economic/business support necessary.

So, again, it isn't ACT vs NZ, it's ACT having issues that make it not particularly attractive for its own AFL side. Why so obsessed with having an AFL club anyway, what's wrong with your local footy? Why are you so stressed that NZ could have 1 AFL club oneday, when Melbourne already has 9? Why aren't you hammering away demanding less teams in Melbourne? And funny how you seem to want to sledge people that don't agree with you, dropping in little slights here and there about ignorance when you know damn well all along that it's a matter of difference of opinion not knowledge.
