The following is a press release from the AFL Northern Territory to mark the beginning of the 2014/15 season tomorrow, as well as endorsing the message of major sponsor, TIO, about road safety and the Always Wear Your Seatbelt initiative

Competition is shifting gears this weekend between the eight premier league teams who are all vying for a spot in finals come March with the season launching this weekend.

The upcoming season will see several new-look teams with fuel in the tank battle through arguably the toughest football conditions in Australia.

AFL Northern Territory CEO Tony Frawley believes the sheer numbers of players participating in the sport around the Territory makes the league the perfect vehicle to promote TIO’s road safety message Always Wear Your Seat Belt.

“Going straight from the AFL grand final into the round one of the TIO NTFL will hopefully give players a boost after seeing the nation’s best in action just last weekend,” Frawley said.

“We are fortunate to have such a visionary partner like TIO, whose message is pertinent to all Territorians; players, friends, family and supporters alike.

“A message on Road Safety, especially wearing your seatbelt, is always important and we are thrilled to be using Always Wear Your Seat Belt as the official message for the campaign.

“There are still too many fatalities on our roads which may have had a different outcome had seat belts been worn.

“It’s gearing up to be a huge season, and we’re thrilled to have TIO on our team heading into week one”.

The high-beam will be on the first game of the fixture with last season’s grand final match up, Saints versus Wanderers, taking to TIO Stadium at 3:10pm.
