The Irish Exiles, representing the best Irishmen playing Aussie Rules in England, staged a massive final term comeback to defeat the England Dragonslayers by 9 points last Saturday, September 5th.

Played in sunny but windy conditions at Albert Road Recreation Ground in Bounds Green, London, the Exiles kicked 5 goals in the last quarter to triumph 9.9 (63) to 7.12 (54). Neither team kicked a goal against the wind all game, the Irish accuracy in front of goal getting them over the line despite the Dragonslayers' greater number of scoring shots.

Aussie Rules UK declared the match a great success and are hoping for the fixture to become an annual event. The performance of the Irish Exiles against the reigning EU Cup champions certainly poses some interesting questions about who will be favourites in Zagreb. Next on the menu for the Dragonslayers will be the Dragon Cup against the Cymru (Wales) Red Dragons next weekend - representing the best Welsh talent in Australian rules football. The English will be eager to take revenge against the Red Dragons after the Welsh succesfully took the Dragon Cup in 2008.
