Africa The prospect of Australian sport, including both footy and cricket becoming popular in Uganda, a country in East Africa, is a topic explored by this interesting article written by Mark Heath "Australian Sport, raising spirits in a remote East African Village" at Dave's Travel Corner.

In 2006, without a Sherrin handy, Mark apparently introduced Ugandan children from a rural village to the concepts of Australian rules football by way of a tightly packed newspaper strapped with some flexible reeds and it has apparently proven popular. He says he plans to return in future with the real pigskin.

News of footy in Uganda, another country where soccer is very popular, follows our recent story on footy in Ghana and the explosive growth of organised Australian rules football in South Africa.

Perhaps the real message out of these stories is to make sure to always take a footy with you on your travels or write to the AFL to send some over when you get there ... You never know who may want to kick it with you.
