Chicago United (number 6 in the WFN USFooty rankings) secured the 2007 Mid-American Australian Football League Premiership on Saturday with an emphatic 103 to 57 win over the Milwaukee Bombers. The victory over Milwaukee secured Chicago a Division 1 invitation for the USFooty National Championship Tournament.
Chicago finished the 2007 regular season an impressive 5 and 1 record, with their only
loss to the Seattle Grizzlies in Seattle. In MAAFL play Chicago had a 4
and 0 record, ahead of Milwaukee, St Louis and
Nashville
who all finished 2 and 2. Cincinnati
took home the wooden spoon with an 0 and 4 record in the MAAFL Championship
Division.
Chicago hosted the Milwaukee Bombers in a local derby that has seen a lot of
history over the first 10 years of USFooty. Chicago came out of the gate
quickly piling on 6 goals straight to the Bombers 3 goals. For the next
two quarters Chicago's talls were able to keep Milwaukee from scoring another
goal while adding 8 goal 5 to their score. At the last change the Bombers
were down 11.2, but they didn't give in and came out in the last quarter scoring
6 goals straight before Chicago was able to steady the ship and run out
comfortable winners. United's Warrick Burgmann kicked 6 goals with Big Al
MacGlashan contributing 3 to the total. Best were Burgmann, MacGlashan and
Milwaukee's Ross Seigal.
