It's time for the crew at WFN to put out another request for assistance. With the steady ebb and flow of work and life commitments of our volunteer reporters we are currently in need of help covering three regions.

WFN is run by volunteers to aid the development of international footy. Unfortunately we are struggling to cope with technical issues that have dogged the site for several months. This is significantly detracting from the time that can be spent on articles and some of the behind the scenes assistance we provide to the footy community. WFN has reached a crucial point where it will be difficult to move forward without help. We therefore are looking for a volunteer to assist with the technical side of running the site. Areas of particular need are basic skills in PHP, cPanel and Geeklog. There aren't major demands on time, but our volunteer writers do not have the additional time to become familiar with these areas, so someone competent with any or all of those features would be most welcome. The time commitment would really only be a few hours per month. Please contact us by clicking on my name at the start of this article, and help us continue to keep WFN running.

With Aussie Rules continuing to grow their assistance in bringing you the news will be most appreciated. We now have changes in place for Asia, Canada, and a new portfolio for the Middle East and the Indian sub-continent.

Our efforts are based around reporting stories about leagues around the world, sourcing initial information from websites, forums and a large list of contacts from inside and outside of leagues and clubs. The great Australian game is steadily spreading and to do it justice WFN needs several more volunteers. We are currently looking for new writers to assist in covering the Asia and Oceania regions, as well as Canada and Ireland. A writer specifically for Japan who speaks Japanese would also be very useful.

This is just a quick note to advise that the WFN staff are doing some end of year tidying up, which includes checking all our Links. A few old websites for defunct clubs are being deleted and some new addresses added where clubs have changed URL etc. Where there have been changes, the link appears in the What's New section to the right.

As part of the development of the FootyWiki - WFN is giving readers a sneak preview of the World Footy Atlas. The Atlas links into the FootyWiki, the World Footy Community's version of the Wikipedia, the online encyclopedia that anyone can edit.

Visit the Atlas here to check out how it's working so far. Currently the maps are mainly at continent level (except North America), but as our writers and programmers have time, the level of detail will be extended hopefully to national level in countries with larger numbers of clubs.

Once in the Wiki, if your club's (or anyone else's club's) information needs expansion or updating - read the User's Guide and add anything you think is relevant!

Just a quick note to say that our RSS feed is working again, having been out of action for a few weeks due to a problem when we changed servers. For those unfamiliar, RSS feeds allow news headlines to be sent straight to your email or RSS reader.

Just a quick note to say that World Footy News has just completed its first year in operation. In that time we've published nearly 400 stories on Aussie Rules from all parts of the globe. Thanks to everyone's support we've hopefully spread the word on footy further within the Australian public, and helped communicate new ideas in the international footy community, perhaps bringing everyone a little closer together in our common goals. With the continued support of the Australian Rules football world, we hope to grow as our great game evolves in more and more countries.
