2016 AFL Japan season concludes - the winners.

In slightly late news, the Tokyo Goannas wrapped up the 2016 AFL Japan season with a 40 point win over the Senshu Powers on Sunday November 27, held under lights at the Yokohama Country & Athletic Club.

Across the weekend just gone the season was wrapped up with the 2016 AFL Japan Awards night including the highlight of the evening - the naming of the 2016 'Peter Wilson Medalist'.

Looking ahead AFL Japan is setting sights on Melbourne 2017 and the International Cup in August next year. AFL Japan are taking registrations of interest and have set a December winter training schedule with more news to come with respect to January and February. The build up begins.

The 1st National Australian Football Championship of Pakistan where held on 27th~28th October 2016 played at the  Jinnah Stadium ,Pakistan Sports Complex Islamabad. Ten teams from all over Pakistan participated. The final match was played between the Islamabad Tigers and the Rawalpindi Loins.

In attendance was the Australian High Commissioner to Pakistan as chief guest and well as the Ambassador of Tajikistan, the Ambassador of Portugal and diplomats from Russia, Brazil, Oman and other dignitaries.

China game gets green light

The mooted Port Adelaide match in China in 2017, the first outside Australia/New Zealand for premiership points has officially been given the green light. Port Adelaide will play their away match hosted by the Gold Coast Suns in Shanghai. The match will take place on Sunday, May 14.

The round eight clash was revealed this afternoon in Melbourne. The match will be show live into Australia at 3.20pm Melbourne time.

World Rankings at the conclusion of All Asia Championships and International Test between Great Britain and Ireland

The contesting of the All Asia Championships on Friday 14th October saw the debut of a new  International Australian Football entity, Team IndoChina. The Team IndoChina concept is similar to the European Crusaders in that it draws local Asian players from the Indochina Nations that are currently unable to field a full National side. This first edition of Team IndoChina was formed with players from Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos and Myanmar.

The Philippine Eagles have defeated the Singapore Wombats to win their first ever Asian Championships in spectacular fashion, with a come from behind win in torrential rain at RMIT Vietnam's Saigon South Campus.

A record 520 registered players, including an ever-improving 70 local players representing 13 clubs from across Asia arrived in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam for the biggest two-days of footy Asia has ever seen. The event growing to a second day for the first time in the 17-year history of Asian Champs, with the Indonesia Garudas winning the inaugural All-Asia Cup on the Friday.

The Asian Championships are being held in Saigon this weekend. Tonight matches kicked off with the All-Asian Cup. This competition is made up of nationals from China, Indonesia and Indochina (combined nations form the team of Indochina).  The three teams played each other in a round robin format with games consisting of 20-minute halves.
 
In the first game the China Reds demonstrated looked well drilled and used their height and body size to their advantage. The Indochina team were able to match the Chinese in some passages of play and looked dangerous when they got the ball out in the open but in the end it was any easy win for China.

As previously reported, a key initiative for Japanese football is underway with the touring Japan University Warriors visiting Australia.

The Japan University Warriors team is touring Melbourne and played the first of two tour matches against the Keysborough FC Thirds on Sunday at Keysborough Reserve.

The game turned out to be a thriller with the Warriors victorious by just one point.

Japan University Warriors touring Melbourne

AFL Japan has announced that a team made up from University students will be touring Australia to play matches and train with a local club and attend two AFL matches.
.
The AFL Japan University Warriors arrive in Melbourne Friday 26th August where they will undertake a visit to AFL House.

On Saturday they will attend the Essendon v Carlton Clash at the MCG and then on Sunday 28th will play a match against Keysborough Thirds at Keysborough Reserve then rush to the MCG to watch the Hawthorn v Collingwood match.

After stepping to his mark and smashing a kick through the uprights, Han Tun Aung kept his cool.

The rest of the team erupted into triumphant shouts.

Euphoria was to be expected, as the historic goal marks the first ever kicked by a Myanmar national in AFL Asia competition. It was a weekend of firsts for Han Tun Aung and his compatriot Min Thiha Kaung, both playing footy for the Fighting Cocks for the first time.

Australian Rules football has just received its first international football identity on his way to the House of Representatives after Saturday’s Australian federal election. Luke Gosling, one of the key foundation members of the footy scene in Timor Leste (along with Justin Bayard), [stood] as the Labor Party candidate for the seat of Solomon.

“Gosling spent a number of years in East Timor with the Australian Defence Force peacekeeping and development mission, after the nation achieved independence in 2002. During his time in the country he was one of a group of Australians who helped introduce the sport of Australian rules.
